What is Earthing

Do you ever notice why few devices have earthing and few don’t? Do you have doubt why Iron, geyser, Micro oven, etc have earthing and why Fan, bulb, TV, Tubelight, etc do not have the earthing? I had the doubt.

What is earthing

Earthing  protects human from excessive current or shocks. In day to day life, we buy devices like micro oven, geyser, laptop etc has metal body casing right. If due to fault, a current is flowing through the metal body casing of device and if we touch that metal body casing,  current will flow through our body, and we will die which is shown below. To avoid that earthing is used. Earthing is connected to the metal casing of a device.

Earthing is similar to neutral wire only thing is that it is connected to the metal casing. Earthing offers lower resistance path than the human body hence prevents the flow of current through the human body whenever there is current flowing through the metal body casing which is shown below. In below image earthing is connected to the metal casing of Iron.

What is neutral wire ?

In analog circuit neutal wire is used to complete the circuit or path which is shown below.

Difference between neutral and earth

Generally, Earthing is used to protect the human body from high excessive current or shocks means earthing acts neutral wire and offers lower resistance path then the human body wherever there is a flow of current through the metal casing of the device. Where neutral wire is used to complete the circuit or path.

Can we use earthing as a neutral?

Yes, can use earthing wire as neutral. Earthing acts as neutral wire whenever there is a flow of current through the metal casing of the device.
